Remember when I said I was getting married? And you suggested yourself as a source for corsetry and I declined? Well . . . I was wondering, if, when you're more back in sewing mode from circus mode, if you'd be able to do a simple dress for me. I'm going bonkers trying to find something I like. I think your style is amazing, and at this point I'd looove to pay you to take the annoyance out of my hands.

I could give you a description of what I want, including my budget, and I'd pay you up front whatever you think is reasonable for a quote and a sketch. That way if either I decide I don't like it (unlikely) or the quote ends up being beyond my means (this is what I'm a little worried about- the economy and all), your time is paid for. I'd feel really, really awful if I put you out at all.
